  • Opening Ceremony at Anchor Mill

In June 2005 the restored Anchor Mill was officially opened by Their Royal Highnesses Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall or The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay while in Scotland.

The Anchor Mill was restored with the help of the Prince of Wales Phoenix Trust.
The Phoenix Trust played a key role in bringing new life to the 19th century mill, which was once part of a major industrial complex of more than 40 buildings, but is now only one of two buildings remaining.

The restored mill, which has five storeys and 150,000 square feet of space inside, has been converted into apartments and a Business Centre (Abbey Mill) as part of a collaboration between The Prince of Wales's Phoenix Trust, Renfrewshire Council, Historic Scotland, Scottish Enterprise Renfrewshire and Persimmon.

Before officially reopening the building, the Duke said  "I am immensely proud of the achievement of my Phoenix Trust in helping to save one of the last examples of these marvellous spinning mills. "

After a buffet lunch in the atrium of the Anchor Mill building Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall met the local dignitaries, business people and the general public.
